Musical Movements Assignment
Musical Movements
1. House
Calvin Harris
This is one of my favorite artists, his name is Adam Wiles but he’s known for his DJ name Calvin Harris. For me, what sets him apart from most other DJs is that he often uses his own voice in many of his recordings. He was born in Scotland and began listening to music at an early age he started recording demos in his bedroom. He was one of the first ones to really make it big just by creating music in his bedroom with a computer. In his career he has been nominated for several prestigious awards like the BRIT Award and MTV Awards, and he even got a Grammy for his song with Rihanna,”we found love”. Some of his other hits include Feel So Close, Sweet Nothing and I Need Your Love, all of which have been on the billboard top charts for weeks after release.
2. Girl Power
This is a girl group from Miami with 5 members. They are Lauren Juaregui, Camilla Cabello, Normani Kordei, Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane. The girls started out on X factor where the group was formed and they ended the season in third place. They then went on to sign major record deals with Simon Cowell’s company Syco Records and others like Epic Records. They have also gone on to hold places on the Billboart Top Charts and even open on tour for bigger artists like Demi Lovato. The group currently has split up to pursue solo careers after Camilla Cabello's exit iiim 2016.
3. Electronic- Producer/DJ Culture
Martin Garrix
Martin Garrix was born as Martijn Garritsen in the North Holland, Netherlands. This artist was very influential on my music taste growing up as a teenager. He actually isn't much older than me at 22 years old. Although he is young, many regard him to be one of the best DJ's in the entire world, and that was when he was only 18 years old. In his new career he has collaborated with some of the biggest artists from various genres which speaks to his talent. There are many DJ's around as the equipment becomes more accessible but for Matin Garrix to become the best DJ in the world at 18 and still be able to produce quality songs consistently surely tells that he will be one to remember.
4. Hardcore
Yellow Claw

4. Hardcore
Yellow Claw
This group is also another one of my favorites, they are a Dutch DJ/Producer group who typically have a heavy Hardcore tone to their music. Their current members are Jim Aasgier and Nizzle. When they first started, a third member by the name of Bizzey was a part of the group and they first gained popularity after throwing a party. They founded and hosted an event at perhaps one Amsterdam's most famous night clubs, The Jimmy Woo. Their unique mixing of genres gained the attention of big names like Diplo who signed them to his label Mad Decent in 2013. They have since gone on to put out many songs and even performed at the well known music festival Tomorrow Land.
5. Disco
Michael Jackson
Known all around the world as the "king of pop" Michael Jackson is probably one of the greatest artists to ever live. Though he is mainly a pop based artist in his last years, he is also known for his contributions to disco in his early years. Before he was on his own, he was in a group with his brothers called the Jackson 5 and later on The Jacksons. When you listen to his music today you can clearly hear the difference between it and modern pop songs. The elements of disco in his music truly show where he came from as an artist and how he allowed it to influence his work.
